FROM JOSH BERNSTEIN:
In part one of their series "Sludge Fund: Crude Treatment" The Daily's Investigative Correspondent Josh Bernstein and Producer Shalini Sharma expose alarming allegations of misconduct within BP's $20 billion dollar victims compensation fund.
The Daily's investigative team spent six months traveling along the Gulf of Mexico, interviewing victims of the largest oil spill in US history and meeting with current and former employees of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility.
Through their efforts they expose a complicating and confusing process that has overwhelmed tens of thousands of victims. Their investigation uncovers porrly translated claims manuals that were circulated to thousands of Vietnamese fisherman. They interview a former GCCF employee who alleges evaluators were routinely instructed to "slow down" the process of reviewing claims so "we'd all have jobs for the next three years."
The Daily's design team rolled out an impressive seven page interactive spread including a timeline, 15 minutes of extended interview clips with the funds administrator Kenneth Feinberg, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange (R) and Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood (D).
