Dear Uncle Henry,

I cannot believe the FBI report that seems to go along with City Hall saying crime is not up, only our perception of crime. I have worked in downtown Mobile for more than 20 consecutive years and crime is worse than it has ever been. People flee from downtown Mobile as the sun goes down, except for the people going to Dauphin Street to party. I guess when you're drinking your perception of crime is better. I have lived in Mobile all my life, and I just cannot believe the lies these folks are telling and expecting us to swallow them. If crime is down, why is there like a murder every single day? Why are people scared to be in the downtown area after dark? Or anywhere in Mobile that isn't inside their houses? None of the women I know are going out alone after dark unless they have no other option.

It's crazy to say that it is only our perception of crime. We have had TV, the radio and the Internet for quite awhile now. Everyone I know is trying to find a way to move outside the city limits into LOWER CRIME AREAS. This is not just a perception. It is the revolving door at the jail, and the fact that the criminals are going right back on the streets to commit more crime. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

Thanks for listening, Uncle Henry. Have a great weekend, or at least, have a good one.

Your Friend,

"Jane"
