Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced another red snapper season. The April meeting was held in Tallahassee.

The 78-day Gulf recreational red snapper season will be as follows:
- Open Saturdays and Sundays in May starting the first Saturday in May.
- Open daily starting the Saturday before Memorial Day (May 27) through Sunday following Independence Day (July 9).
- Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in September and October, plus Labor Day (Sept. 4).
“We are once again able to provide and maintain fishing opportunities for Gulf recreational anglers and provide stakeholders with spring, summer and fall fishing options for this economically important species,” said Commissioner Chuck Roberts.
Alabamians received the news in March that their red snapper season would be 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 26, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2017.

Alabama's waters will open for the recreational harvest of red snapper from 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 26, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2017. Alabama state waters extend 9 nautical miles from shore. The daily bag limit will be two red snapper per person, and the minimum size will be 16 inches in total length."
This year's federal red snapper season has not yet been set.
Fishermen are again encouraged to report their snapper catch through the Snapper Check program. A smartphone app is available by searching for "Outdoor Alabama" on the iTunes or Google Play app stores. Reports also can be filed at www.outdooralabama.com or by paper forms available at public boat launches.
