Hotels that allow smoking in any guest rooms most likely have smoke in all their rooms, even those designated as non-smoking.  This finding in a San Diego State University study suggests people concerned about the health effects of cigarette smoke book a room in a strictly no smoking hotel.  Researchers found nicotine residue and traces of other chemicals on surfaces and in the air of both smoking and non-smoking rooms in 30 California hotels that allow smoking.  Second-hand smoke has been linked to health problems such as asthma attacks, heart disease and lung cancer.
